Sunday, June 4, 12pm - McCarren Park Pool “campaign” Brunch
Posted June 1st, 2006 by surplusHi folks,
Those of you in the to: field wrote me back (or spoke to me) with interest in the incipient McCarren Park Pool “campaign”.
Or whatever we want to call it…seems like that’s what needs to be figured out. What do we want to do about Yaasky and the Parks Deparment handing the pool over to (blech) Clear Channel without any community input into the decision? Clear Channel’s booking shows that cost $52 to go to. It doesn’t sound like they’ll be featuring local bands, nor will local promoters or arts or community groups have access to the venue for local programming. We fought hard during the rezoning and the pool was part of that. It’s a public site and a bohemeth bad guy is reaping the rewards. How’d this happen? What can we do about it?
Register our opposition in creative and engaging ways for one. The long-term life of the pool is yet to be decided, supposedly. So if we make a stink now, while Yaasky’s running for Congress, maybe we can affect the future.
Maybe not. But it’s fun to play with stickers and stencils and it sucks to give up.
Those of you in the cc: field, you didn’t write me but I thought you might be interested.
For the past few months we’ve been holding sporadic Sunday brunches at The Change You Want to See space. We make eggs and pancakes. Folks bring the rest. Lots of people come, and linger, cook up ideas, hatch projects, watch Wonder Showzen (that what it’s called Matt??), drink spiked coffee.
This Sunday we’d like to make it thematic. If you want to co-conspire, please join us…

Our roommate’s in the Hungry March Band and they’re having a benefit BBQ that afternoon, so please don’t be late cuz we’ll want to take off after brunch and go support them. You’re invited for that too, of course.
Silly goose.
