Posted March 9th, 2007 by surplus
When:
Sunday March 11th, 2:00 to 7:00pm
Where:
The Change you Want to See Gallery and Convergence Space
84 Havemeyer Street (storefront)
Brooklyn NY 11211
Join Astorians for Peace and Justice and Not an Alternative Arts Collective in a Dove Project workshop. We will produce cardboard dove sculptures for the Mid-March mobilizations against the Iraq war. While working to make a flock of doves for the Astorians, you can also make your own dove to take home–and learn how to make a flock of your own.
These are beautiful and handy props to have at mass gatherings.
What to bring:
Yourself, dressed in clothes suitable for getting paint on.
Corrugated cardboard boxes.

About the Dove Project
————————————————————————-
The Dove Project is an ongoing collaborative work in sculpture and performance initiated in the fall of 2001. Designed to be strong and simple symbols, the doves reinforce and extend the meaning of the field of signs and symbols that public anti-war gatherings present.
Doves are produced in collaboration with participants who use simple patterns and
instructions to replicate the dove sculpture in cardboard, a freely accessible medium. The production of the sculpture itself is a key component of the work as a whole, in that it engages participants as political activists, artistic producers, and performers–all at the same time.
Participants and contributors to the Dove Project include:
